Abstract

This study explores gender diversity in the feature-length spanish films included in the catalog of HBO Spain, between January 2021 and January 2022. It analyzes the presence of women in positions of creative responsibility and presents initial conclusions obtained after examining the gender differences in the Home Box Office offering, focusing on the professional roles of directors and screenwriters. The main objective of this research is to display the limited visibility of women in positions of creativity and responsibility in cinematographic projects; that is, the presence of women in screenwriting and directing positions. Secondly, the article aims to contribute to a better understanding of the structure of the audiovisual industry in Spain, so that, based on this analysis or specific case study, greater attention is focused on the fact that the appearance of the over-the-top (OTT) platforms in Spain does not seem to have modified, or at least not significantly so, the presence of women in the audiovisual industry in the most noteworthy creative positions.
